SCCM 2503 Upgrade New Features and Hotfixes

    April 30, 20251,625 Views

SCCM 2503 is the latest current branch release of year 2025 that released on April 3, 2025 to the early update ring. This release is available as an in-console update for Configuration Manager sites running version 2309 or later.

Microsoft Configuration Manager 2503 primarily focuses on bug fixes and security enhancements, not new features, as part of Microsoft’s Secure Future Initiative. Over 350 bugs fixed are addressed in the KB31909343 update.

Upgrading to ConfigMgr 2503 is a simple and straightforward process. Make sure you run the prerequisite check before installing the update. Any warnings or errors should be fixed before you install the update.

    SCCM 2503 Baseline Version

SCCM 2503 is not a baseline version as described by Microsoft learn. You will have to use version 2403 baseline media from MSDN or VLSC portal to install a new instance of Configuration Manager.

    Support Details

Microsoft has released SCCM version 2503 on April 23, 2025. The support for SCCM 2503 ends on September 30, 2026. During the support period, Microsoft will provide updates via hotfixes, roll-ups, and OOB updates.

    Upgrade Resources

Listed below are some important upgrade resources that should help you upgrade to Configuration Manager 2503:

    SCCM 2503 Version Details

Once your site has been updated to version 2503, verify the following details to ensure the upgrade was successful:

    • Microsoft Configuration Manager Version: 2503
    • Console Version: 5.2503.1083.1000
    • Site Version: 5.0.9135.1000

    Client Upgrade

To take full advantage of new Configuration Manager changes, after you update the site, also update clients to the latest version. The recommended method to upgrade the clients is by using the Automatic Client Upgrade feature. The production client version of SCCM 2503 is 5.00.9135.1001.

Version 2503 Prerequisite Check fails with ODBC driver

Several users reported that SCCM update to 2503 fails prerequisite checks due to missing ODBC driver 18 for SQL. This issue is encountered when you install an older version of Microsoft ODBC driver for SQL Server. The download link from MS 2503 documentation points to an older version of ODBC driver. Just install version 18.5.1.1 or later, and it will pass the prerequisite checks.

    Hotfixes for SCCM 2503

Since version 2503 is a new release, there are currently no hotfixes released for this version. However, Microsoft does release hotfixes when it discovers critical issues with the current branch versions. This space will be updated when there are new hotfixes released.

    Known Issues

There are no known issues with SCCM 2503 update. It is safe to upgrade to this version on your production server.

    Conclusion

In summary, SCCM 2503 is a maintenance release focusing on security and bug fixes, rather than introducing new features. It’s crucial for administrators to prepare their environments properly before installing the update to ensure a smooth and successful upgrade process.
