SCOM 2022 (Operations Manager 2022) is now released. This post lists all the possible SCOM 2022 upgrade paths that will help you upgrade to version 2022.
If you are running an older version of operations manager in your setup, upgrading to SCOM version 2022 will bring more new features and improvements.
Before you install SCOM 2022, you must ensure that your server meets the minimum supported configurations for System Center Operations Manager. For more information, see System Requirements for System Center Operations Manager.
SCOM 2022 supports the latest version of Windows Server, version 2022. After the upgrade install the latest update rollup for Operations Manager 2022.
New Features in Operations Manager 2022
Some of the best new features of SCOM 2022 include:
- Additional role-based access controls (RBAC)
- Updated M365 monitoring
- New and updated management packs
- Ability to run tasks under System
- Teams notification channel
The SCOM 2022 upgrade paths will assist you in determining whether you can perform an in-place upgrade to 2022 or if you need an intermediate upgrade.
For example, if you are running SCOM 2016 in your setup, you cannot perform a direct in-place upgrade to Operations Manager 2022. You must first upgrade SCOM from 2016 to 2019, then to version 2022.

Upgrading SCOM 2012 R2 to OpsMgr 2022
Note: If you are on SCOM 2012 R2, you have two ways to upgrade to Operations Manager 2022.
- Upgrade SCOM 2012 R2 > SCOM 2016 -> SCOM 2019 -> SCOM 2022
- Upgrade SCOM 2012 R2 > SCOM 1801 -> SCOM 2019 -> SCOM 2022
