SCCM SUSDB – WSUS Post Installation Tasks

When you install WSUS for SCCM, you might notice that SUSDB isn’t created on your SQL Server. That’s because you haven’t performed the WSUS post installation tasks.

Usually when you install Windows Server Update services, the final step is WSUS post installation tasks. You must complete the post installation tasks otherwise you may not see SUSDB created in the SQL server.

So let’s say you install WSUS and you don’t complete the WSUS post installation tasks. Now when you open the SQL server and look under the Databases, you don’t see SUSDB.

Here are the simple steps using which you can create the SUSDB. On the Server where you have installed WSUS, launch the Server Manager.

Click Notifications (there is a yellow exclamation). It reads Configuration required for Windows Server Update Services.

If you click the notification, under Task Details and Notifications, it says Additional configuration must be performed before continuing.

Now click Notifications and then click Launch Post-installation tasks. While the configuration is being done, do not open SQL server or WSUS console.

Wait for the post installation tasks to complete. Now you can see Configuration completed for Windows Server update services.

Finally we see the SUSDB now visible under Databases.
