Configuration Manager delivers product updates directly through the Configuration Manager console. To support this update process, it creates a new folder named CD.Latest, which contains a copy of the Configuration Manager installation files for the updated version of your site.
The CD.Latest folder includes a Redist folder that stores the redistributable files required by Setup. These files are version-matched to the Configuration Manager files in the same CD.Latest folder. When you run Setup from a CD.Latest folder, you must use redistributable files that match that specific Setup version. You can either allow Setup to download the latest compatible files from Microsoft or configure it to use the files provided in the Redist folder.
Examples of unsupported CD.Latest folder
The updated CD.Latest source files aren’t supported for:
- You should not use the files within this folder for installing a new site for a new hierarchy.
- Upgrading a Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager site to Configuration Manager current branch
- Installing Configuration Manager clients and consoles.
- Manually modifying any of the files within the folder and using it for Configuration Manager.
Keep the above limitations in mind whenever you’re working with cd.latest folder.
