How to Install RSAT Tools on Windows 10

Installing RSAT on Windows 10 has really become simple. Gone are the days when you had to download RSAT and manually install it. However starting with Windows 10 version 1809 and above, Microsoft introduced a new way to install Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT). You can install RSAT easily because it is now included as a set of “Features on Demand” in Windows 10.
What is RSAT?
RSAT stands for Remote Server Administration Tools. Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 10 lets IT administrators manage Windows Server from a remote computer running the full release version of Windows 10.
RSAT eliminates the need of logging in to a Windows server to finish administrative tasks. Furthermore when you have a big IT team and you don’t want IT guys to login every time to server, RSAT is the best option. The IT guys can install RSAT on their laptops and based on the permissions given they can access the tools.
Before you proceed further, ensure that you remove all older versions of Administration Tools Pack or Remote Server Administration Tools. This is because only one copy at a time of Remote Server Administration Tools can be installed on a computer.
Important – If you have upgraded to Windows 10 from an older release of Windows, you will need to install Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 10 on the computer. Most of all ensure no earlier releases of Remote Server Administration Tools are still installed on a computer that you have upgraded to Windows 10.
Install RSAT Tools on Windows 10
Here are the steps to install RSAT on Windows 10 using Graphical User Interface.
- On your Windows 10 machine, click Start and click Settings.
- You will see Windows Settings window. Click Apps.
Under Apps and features, click Manage optional features.
Windows 10 comes with certain features installed. You will see Manage optional features window. Click Add a feature.
Scroll down a bit and you should see list of RSAT tools. Select any tool that you wish to install. Now click Install button. You should now see the tool installed. That’s very simple isn’t it.
